Research Awards
A Record of Growing Success
This graph shows that the significant blip in 1999 was not
an aberration but a step that UMCES continues to make. This reflects the ability of the Centers
faculty to compete successfully for external research funding. The Center continues to be particularly
adept at putting together large inter-disciplinary teams addressing ever-more
complex issues.

Source of Funding
The research operations of the Center are supported through
multiple external sources, in particular Federal agencies that sponsor
environmental research. Federal support
tends to be the most highly competitive funding, subject to rigorous peer
review.

A Diverse Portfolio of Support
The Centers research is supported by a diverse array of
Federal agencies. Notable among them
are agencies which support fundamental research such as the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the
National Science Foundation.
