Captain has piloted Bay research vessel for 24 years

Solomons, Md. (March 16, 2007) – The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science yesterday honored Captain Michael Reusing for 40 years of service to the University and its research fleet based at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory.

Captain Reusing began working at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory as a research technician in 1967, eventually becoming Captain of the R/V Aquarius in 1983. The 65-foot R/V Aquarius is the University’s primary research vessel and is berthed in Solomons.

Captain Reusing was presented with the service award by Chesapeake Biological Laboratory Director Margaret Palmer, Marine Superintendent Bruce Cornwall, UMCES President Donald Boesch, and UMCES Vice President Steve Wilson at a ceremony in Solomons.
