Cambridge, Md. (January 24, 2007) – The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) Horn Point Laboratory has launched a new Speakers Bureau designed to make the Laboratory’s faculty more easily available to Eastern Shore community organizations. Community, non-profit and education groups can contact a Horn Point scientist to give public talks on topics ranging from the restoration of oysters, sturgeon and seagrasses to the potential effects of climate change on the Chesapeake Bay. “This new initiative is part of our overall mission of increasing public outreach and education,” said Horn Point Laboratory Director Mike Roman. “We welcome the opportunity to talk with local organizations about the important environmental issues facing the citizens of the Eastern Shore.” To book a speaker, organizations can visit http://www.hpl.umces.edu/services/speakers.htm or call 410-221-8335 for a complete list of lecture topics. |
The Horn Point Laboratory is part of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, the principal research institution for advanced environmental research and graduate studies within the University System of Maryland. With laboratories in Frostburg, Solomons Island and Cambridge, UMCES researchers are helping improve our scientific understanding of Maryland, the region and the world. |
