VFW Choptank Memorial Post Helps Support Youth Environmental Education Programs at Horn Point Laboratory |
|
Cambridge, Md. (February 12, 2008) – Cambridge’s VFW Choptank Memorial Post has donated $6,000 to support youth environmental education programs at the UMCES Horn Point Laboratory. For three years, the VFW has helped provide student scholarships to the Kids’ Bay Adventures Summer Program and other important environmental education projects. The Kids’ Bay Adventures program consists of seven one-week sessions over the course of the summer on different environmental topics. Children are given the opportunity to have fun in the outdoors, while learning about science in their own backyard. Choptank Discoveries, Wetland Wonders and Junior Scientist are just a few of the programs offered. Craft projects, games and other activities are included as part of the educational experience. The Horn Point Laboratory is an environmental research facility of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES), the principal research institution for advanced environmental research and graduate studies within the University System of Maryland. With laboratories in Frostburg, Solomons Island and Cambridge, UMCES researchers are helping improve our scientific understanding of Maryland, the region and the world. |
