Watershed Hydrology and Biogeochemistry
The Watershed Hydrology and Biogeochemistry AOS is a broad research area designed to improve our understanding of:
- Broad-scale ecosystem and hydrological dynamics
- Biogeochemical processes on the land-surface
- Processes at the terrestrial-aquatic and terrestrial-atmospheric interfaces
- Scaling relationships for both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems
- Natural controls and human influences on surface water quality and quantity at a variety of scales
Major issues include effects of atmospheric deposition, effects of forest disturbances, land use changes, global climate change, and element cycling within and fluxes from ecosystems. Research is often aimed at linking local processes to regional or global phenomena.
