Dr. Donald Boesch has left an indelible mark on the quality and health of our environment during a career spanning more than three decades:
Don Boesch in water

  • From playing a lead scientific role in restoring the Chesapeake Bay to bringing facts to the public discourse on climate change;
  • From improving the abundance of blue crabs, oysters, and other fishes to building one of the nation's top graduate programs in environmental science;
  • From presidential appointment to the Deepwater Horizon Gulf Oil Spill Commmision to teaching and mentoring dozens of graduate students;
  • From serving on the Chesapeake Bay Cabinet under five Maryland governors to advising public officials across the country and the globe on key environmental matters.

After 27 years of service as University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, Dr. Boesch is stepping down to resume teaching and writing.

We invite you to honor his long service by making a gift to the Don Boesch Environmental Leadership Fund, which will support fellowships and bolster ongoing research on the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
