Bio

Cassie Doty is a faculty research assistant at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science Appalachian Laboratory in Frostburg, Maryland. She is the Appalachian Lab’s education coordinator. As such, she develops curricular materials for K-12 teachers, facilitates teacher professional development workshops, and supports teachers in the classroom so they can integrate into their classes authentic science concepts and research on a variety of topics including watersheds, schoolyard ecology, and stream health. Prior to working at the Appalachian Laboratory, Cassie developed curriculum and facilitated teacher professional development workshops for the NASA Classroom of the Future at the Center for Educational Technologies and was an adjunct biology teacher at Wheeling Jesuit University, both in Wheeling, WV. She holds a M.S. in Environmental Biology from West Virginia University where she studied forest biogeochemistry, and a B.S. in Biology from Wheeling Jesuit College where she studied freshwater ecology. Cassie has seventeen years’ experience as a professional environmental educator.
