Renowned Oceanographer to talk about Winds, Currents and Sailing Free January 16 Easton event a perfect night out for winterized sailors |

Cambridge, Md. (January 7, 2008) – World-renowned oceanographer Dr. Rocky Geyer will provide a respite for stir crazy, winterized sailors with a free seminar entitled “Wind and Currents: What a sailor should know about physical oceanography” at the Historical Society of Talbot County auditorium in Easton, Maryland on January 16, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Geyer is currently teaching at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Massachusetts and is one of the world’s leading authorities in estuarine and coastal physical oceanography. His research concentrates on water circulation and mixing. As an oceanographer, he regularly applies his knowledge to his favorite hobby - sailing. |

The seminar is part of Dr. Geyer’s week-long visit to the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science Horn Point Laboratory. Dr. Geyer was nominated and selected as the 2008 Ian Morris Scholar-in-Residence, and will be working with faculty and students on a number of oceanographic issues while at the laboratory. The seminar is sponsored by the UMCES Horn Point Laboratory and will take place at 25 South Washington Street in Easton. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the public will be able to speak with Dr. Geyer over refreshments after the talk.
