UMCES Giving Opportunities
The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science welcomes gifts of all types. Your donation helps advance the Center’s cutting-edge research about the natural world around us.
Donors may make unrestricted or restricted gifts at anytime. Unrestricted gifts - those not restricted for a specific purpose - are vital to the Center’s continued success. Restricted gifts allow you to direct your gift to a specific program, department, or scholarship that is important to you.

Ways to Support UMCES
Cash
Your personal cash gift is a great way to support UMCES, and is deductible from your adjusted gross income.
Stocks or Bonds
To help insure full tax benefits, securities can be electronically transferred by your broker to the University of Maryland Foundation.
Life Income Gifts
Gifts of appreciated property can generate income for you with positive tax benefits. Gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts are examples of life income gifts.
Bequests
By designating UMCES or one of our Laboratories in your will, you can direct cash, property, or a percentage of the remainder of your estate to UMCES and reduce inheritance taxes.
Lead Trusts
Property or assets can stay in your family, while your gift reduces estate taxes and supports UMCES.
Life Insurance
Designating UMCES as a beneficiary of a paid-up policy or a new policy helps to ensure the future of UMCES and provides you with a tax deduction.
Retained Life Estate
You retain occupancy of your property for life and UMCES will receive the income from your primary or vacation home or farm in the future.
Real or Personal Property
You can deduct the full fair-market value of gifts of real estate or personal property (art, antiques, boats, oriental rugs, sculptures, etc.).
Retirement Plan Gifts
Remainder interest in IRA, 401(k) and 403(b) plans can be designated to provide income to loved ones and ultimately benefit UMCES at substantial tax savings.
