K-12 Science Education

The Horn Point Laboratory’s Environmental Science Education Center is the location of many programs offered to students and teachers by the Maryland Department of Education and by non-profits with environmental missions.  These science-based programs connect adults and children to the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay and issues related to natural resource sustainability and the people-land-water connection. See the educational magic that happens in this video when NorthBay Adventure leased our Education Center and all its amenities for a MSDE Gifted and Talented Summer Center in 2015 and for  field trips during the school year. The Center is located on the Choptank River and has both rustic charm and sophisticated equipment and facilities for day and/or overnight programs. Facilities include a large meeting hall with commercial kitchen, classrooms, a wet-lab, 2 dormitories that each sleep 18 people (36 total), IT components for research and presentations, WiFi, canoes and walking trails.

Horn Point, at this time, does not directly offer programs, but welcomes outside groups that wish to bring their program to the facility. For more information contact Linda Starling at starling@umces.edu .
