Director, Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology, University System of Maryland
The Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) of the University System of Maryland seeks a Director. The IMET mission is to study and understand the biology of coastal marine biosystems, to ensure sustainable use of these marine biosystems, and use of marine-derived systems to improve human health (http://www.imet.usmd.edu/). IMET brings together faculty members from three major USM research institutions - the University of Maryland Baltimore, the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science - in a dedicated state-of-the art research facility located in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. The IMET Director will serve as Chief Scientific and Executive Officer with a mandate to expand IMET’s basic and translational research effort in marine, environmental and biomedical science, to expand research programs that compliment existing research strengths and to build new research programs. The Director will be an eminent PhD scientist with outstanding research credentials, in an area suitable to lead the institute, and have demonstrated leadership credentials in an academic research setting. The Director will have a mandate to enhance the international stature of IMET and to bring additional grant, commercial and philanthropic support to IMET.
