Marine biotechnology leaders from across the globe recently gathered at the Ninth Annual International Marine Biotechnology Conference (IMBC) in Qingdao, China from October 8-12 to discuss topics ranging from aquaculture and marine microbiology to bio-energy and algal biotechnology.

This triennial conference - the premier international Marine Biotechnology meeting - emphasizes the use of molecular approaches in studying the protection and enhancement of global marine resources. It also provides an opportunity for scientists from many countries to present the latest research findings from genomic, metagenomic and related studies on marine organisms.

UMCES@IMET scientists helped drive discussions with presentations by Jeanette Davis, Russell Hill, Jindong Zan, Sook Chung, Aaron Watson, Holly Bowers, Fan Zhang and Feng Chen. Some 600 scientists from more than 40 countries attended the event, including IMET colleagues Frank Robb and Sara Rowland (UMB) and John Stubblefield, Ryan Powell, Nilli Zmora and Oded Zmora (UMBC).

The next IMBC will be held in 2013 in Brisbane, Australia.
