HEALTH BENEFITS ~ Eligibility
Enrollment must be within the first 60 days of employment
Regular Active Employees-State-subsidized benefits
All regular status faculty and staff who are at least 50% FTE on the payroll are eligible for state-subsidized benefits.
Examples: faculty, tenured; faculty, non-tenured, on track; faculty, non-tenured, term contract; faculty, non-tenured, continuing contract; regular, exempt; regular, nonexempt, graduate research assistants.
Contractual and Part-Time Employees-Non-subsidized Benefits
Contractual and part-time State employees are eligible to enroll in the same benefits as regular active State employees, with the exception of the Flexible Spending Accounts and Long Term Care. Part time employees who work less than 50% of a regular workweek and contractual employees must pay the entire cost of the plans, including the State subsidy. Contractual and part-time employees must follow the same participation rules as full-time employees, with the exception of the following:
- The effective date of coverage cannot be changed once the Enrollment Worksheet has been processed. (A letter must be attached with the Worksheet if the employee is requesting an effective date other than the current processing date.)
- Changes to coverage cannot be made at the time of a contract renewal.
- If you leave State service, notify the Employee Benefits Division in writing to receive your COBRA package.
Examples: exempt/nonexempt contingent category II; faculty research assistant I; faculty, contractual.
