UMCES President Receives Lifelong Leadership Award

Boesch recognized at national conference for contributions to ecological restoration

Cambridge, Md. (April 30, 2007) – University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science President Dr. Donald F. Boesch was recently honored for his “Lifelong Leadership in Ecological Restoration” at the National Conference on Ecosystem Restoration in Kansas City, Missouri.

Throughout his career, Dr. Boesch has played a significant role in developing the science and policy supporting the restoration of critical ecosystems across the country, including the Everglades, Coastal Louisiana’s Mississippi River delta, the Gulf of Mexico and the Chesapeake Bay. Internationally, he has advised restoration efforts of the East China Sea, the Baltic Sea and Tokyo Bay. He has also served as President of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science since 1990.

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science is the principal research institution for advanced environmental research and graduate studies within the University System of Maryland. UMCES researchers are helping improve our scientific understanding of Maryland, the region and the world through its three laboratories – Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Solomons, Appalachian Laboratory in Frostburg, and Horn Point Laboratory in Cambridge – and the Maryland Sea Grant College.
