Bio

I am a doctoral candidate in the Toxicology program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and am mentored by Dr. Allen Place at IMET. My research probes the link between diet and inflammation, and the potential to mitigate gastrointestinal inflammation with supplemental taurine. Taurine plays several critical physiological roles in animal systems and is a potent antioxidant. There is evidence that taurine can counteract the pro-inflammatory potential of wheat gluten in Cobia, and we are currently investigating a similar role in zebrafish genetically altered to be deficient in taurine biosynthesis.
