Program Administrative Specialist


The Chesapeake Biological Laboratory of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES), located in Solomon’s Island, is seeking a Program Administrative Specialist to join our Business Office.  This position will focus on payroll and Human Resources for the campus. The successful applicant will be a professional and collaborative team player who is comfortable multi-tasking in a busy office environment. The successful applicant will be a quick learner, who is willing to be cross-trained in other financial business office functions and have strong interpersonal and communications skills.  Primary duties include maintaining accurate processing of payroll, reconciling payroll charges to cost centers, and all general human resources tasks, including assisting with employment immigration matters, disseminating accurate benefits information to new and current employees, and processing new hire and termination paperwork.    BS degree and four years applicable experience is required.  Experience in a higher education and grant/contract environment and familiarity with personnel and human resources software is extremely helpful.  Applicable years of service can be substituted for the education requirement.  Hours are typically 8-5. M-F.
