The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) is seeking applicants for an entry level technician position at the Horn Point Laboratory (HPL) in Cambridge MD.
The position will be a full-time Faculty Research Assistant (FRA level 1) with salary and benefits (BA or BS degree required). Funding is currently available for 6 months with the possibility of additional time. Duties include year-round field work in wetland restoration and ecology, including vegetation sampling and identification, insect sampling and identification, elevation monitoring, water quality monitoring (Hydrolab, ISCO), lab analyses (sample preparation for nutrient and particulate analyses), computer data analysis, and public outreach activities related to the project.
The successful applicant will have strong communication skills, demonstrated personnel management skills required to organize and work with volunteers, the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, have scheduling flexibility for fieldwork, and will enjoy working outdoors in all conditions. Prior work experience in wetland ecology is required, including insect monitoring and identification. Special consideration will be given to applicants with experience in sample preparation for genomic analysis, boat operation and grant writing.
