  Wenzel\, Carnegie Museum of Natural History\, will present 'Large-scale f
 orest ecology at Powdermill Nature Reserve through classical approaches an
 d emerging technologies\,' as part of the Appalachian Laboratory's Visitin
 g Scholar Seminar Series. \n\n\nAbstract: \n\n\n\nLong-term research at a 
 landscape level permits us to address several important topics in forest e
 cosystems. Does plant functional diversity relate to above ground biomass?
  How does current plant community variation relate to past land use? What 
 are the effects of major disturbances such as logging or browsing by high 
 densities of white tailed deer? This talk will report results from classic
 al survey approaches\, as well as offer a view of new methods that permit 
 accurate and rapid assessment of forest stands by drone technology.\n\n\n
