  \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n\n \n\n\nDr. Jul
ie Dinasquet at Scripps Institution of Oceanography will present a talk ti
tled 'From marine microbes to atmospheric chemistry: interactions between
bacterioplankton and volatile organic compounds'\n\n\n\nAlthough it plays
a key role in atmospheric chemistry and climate regulation\, the pool of v
olatile organic compounds (VOCs) and its importance in the marine carbon c
ycle has been largely overlooked. With advances in microbial genomics\, we
know now that this “hidden” pool of carbon may indeed be important to mar
ine microbial metabolisms\, which may in turn affect marine carbon cycle a
nd air-sea fluxes. This talk will focus on spatiotemporal variations of ba
cterioplankton interactions with methanol as a model VOC.
