 \n\nPresented by Dr. Russell Hill\n\n\n\nFor more than half a century\, sc
 ientists have been exploring the marine environment to find new drugs.  So
 me groups of marine organisms\, in particular sponges\, have been prolific
  sources of new bioactive compounds. The marine environment has provided u
 s with new drugs\, including anti-cancer drugs\, analgesics and antibiotic
 s. Dr. Hill will give an overview of the drug discovery process and talk a
 bout some important new drugs from the marine environment\, including prom
 ising compounds that are still in the “discovery pipeline.”\n\nCBL’s Berni

 in us at the oldest state-supported marine lab on the East Coast to learn
 about innovative research being pioneered by CBL scientists.  Our faculty
 and graduate students are developing new approaches to solving the environ
 mental management problems facing Calvert County\, our nation\, and the wo
 rld. Each talk will be presented by an UMCES scientist and will inform the
  public about a featured research effort.  \n\n      \n\n        \n\n
