. Loren Albert\, West Virginia University\, will present\, 'Drivers of for
est photosynthesis from leaves to ecosystems\,' on Thursday\, September 24
\, at 3:30pm via Zoom. To learn more about Dr. Albert's research visit her
research page. \n\n\nAbstract:\n\n\nPhotosynthesis fuels nearly all life
on Earth and drives the flux of carbon from the atmosphere to the terrestr
ial biosphere. The future of this flux is highly uncertain under climate c
hange\, signaling the need for a greater understanding of plant metabolic
processes from leaves to whole plants to ecosystems. Loren Albert’s resear
ch addresses this challenge using plant physiology tools and near-surface
remote sensing in field campaigns\, experiments\, and models. Current ques
tions include: how do tree allocation strategies such as leaf phenology af
fect rates of photosynthesis? What are the physiological limits of trees\,
and what underlies their variation? And can innovations in imaging spectr
oscopy\, remote sensing\, and machine learning help us answer such questio
 ns?
