\nHave you ever wondered what happens in that unusual building with the te
nt-like roof at the Inner Harbor? Science happens! The Institute of Marine
and Environmental Technology (IMET) opens its doors for a free Open House
  on Saturday\, May 6\, 1-4 p.m. Enjoy hands-on science activities for kids
of all ages\, meet our scientists\, and discover important marine researc
h happening at the harbor’s edge. REGISTER FOR FREE HERE\n\n\n\n- Check ou
t the fish and crabs in a behind-the-scenes tour of our Aquaculture Resear
ch Center.\n- Peer into microscopes to see what’s living in the harbor. Yo
u might be surprised!\n- Learn how to use research tools like microscopes
and pipettes to sample DNA.\n- Tour the Rachel Carson research vessel and
see how science happens on the water!\n- Meet your science superhero—marin
e biologists making new discoveries every day.\n- Talk with our graduate s
 tudents about what it’s like to be a scientist…and much more!\n\n \n

the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) are engaged in
cutting-edge research in microbiology\, molecular biology\, and biotechno
logy. They are using marine organisms like sponges to develop drugs for ca
ncer\, devising ways to make alternative fuel out of algae found in the Ch
esapeake\, and working on understanding how crabs and fish grow so we have
abundant sources of food.\n\nLocated at Baltimore's Inner Harbor\, the In
stitute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) is a joint Universit
y System of Maryland institute that conducts research to help protect and
restore coastal marine systems and their watersheds and improve human heal
th. The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES)\,
the University of Maryland Baltimore\, and the University of Maryland Balt
 imore County are partner universities.
