. James McLaren will present 'Modelling adaptation of migratory orientatio
n to changing geomagnetic and environmental landscapes\,' as part of the A
ppalachian Laboratory's Visiting Scholar Seminar Series. \n\n\n\nFollowing
studies in Mathematics\, Oceanography and Music\, James McLaren completed
his PhD in 2015 at the University of Amsterdam\, specializing in modellin
g adaptive scheduling and orientation in bird migration. Modelling migrati
on behaviour remained his research focus during postdocs at the University
of Delaware and Environment and Climate Change Canada\, using weather sur
veillance radar and radio-telemetry data to assess environmental drivers o
f migratory stopover and flight decisions. James currently works at the Un
iversity of Oldenburg\, Germany\, with a particular interest in understand
ing how migratory orientation programs can both mediate and constrain evol
ution of routes\, in response to global environmental change. He also rece
ntly became a guest member at William Fagan’s lab at the University of Mar
yland.\n\n\n\nPlease note that seminars in the Visiting Scholars Series ar
e open to the public but are intended for scientific audiences.  To learn
more about our programming for general audiences\, please visit our outrea
