\n\n\nHave you ever wondered what happens in that unusual building with th
e tent-like roof at the Inner Harbor? Science happens! The Institute of Ma
rine and Environmental Technology (IMET) opens its doors for a free Open H
 ouse on Saturday\, May 4\, 1-4 p.m. Enjoy hands-on science activities for
kids all ages\, meet our scientists\, and discover important marine resear
 ch happening at the harbor’s edge.\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n
 \n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n

fish and crabs in a behind-the-scenes tour of our Aquaculture Research Cen
ter\n	Find out how 'nature's nightlight' works....microscopic organisms tha
t glow in the dark!\n	Test your shark knowledge with an interactive video g
ame\n	Peer into microscopes to see what’s living in the harbor. You might b
e surprised!\n	Learn how to use research tools like microscopes and pipette
s to sample DNA\n	Tour the Rachel Carson research vessel and see how scienc
e happens on the water!\n	Meet your science superhero…marine biologists mak
ing new discoveries every day.\n	Talk with our graduate students about what
  it’s like to be a scientist\, and much more!\n\n\n\n\nScientists at the I
nstitute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) are engaged in cutt
ing-edge research in microbiology\, molecular biology\, and biotechnology.
They are using marine organisms like sponges to develop drugs for cancer\
, devising ways to make alternative fuel out of algae found in the Chesape
ake\, and working on understanding how crabs and fish grow so we have abun
dant sources of food.\n\n\n\nLocated at 701 E. Pratt Street at Baltimore's
Inner Harbor\, the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology  (IME
 T) is a joint University System of Maryland institute that conducts resear
ch to help protect and restore coastal marine systems and their watersheds
and improve human health. The University of Maryland Center for Environme
ntal Science (UMCES)\, the University of Maryland Baltimore\, and the Univ
ersity of Maryland Baltimore County are partner universities.\n\nRSVP on E
