 ssons in culture\, inclusion\, & community engagement\n              \n\n

 \n  \n\n    \n\n              \n\n\nPresented by Dr. Lora Harris\n\n\n\nDe
 spite efforts to increase recruitment\, the geosciences lag behind other S
 TEM fields in gender and minority representation. The disconnect between r
 ecruitment and retention has motivated national efforts to consider why ou
 r field has failed to reflect the communities we serve. Dr. Harris will pr
 esent an overview of this challenge along with her efforts to tackle the p
 roblem through basic research into the mechanisms and barriers affecting r
 epresentation and specific programs designed to make progress towards dive
 rsifying our field. \n\n\n\nWhere: CBL’s Bernie Fowler Lab\, 142 Williams
 Street\, Solomons\, MD 20688. View a campus map.\nCost: Free. No pre-regis
 tration necessary. Seating is available on a first-come\, first-served bas
 is.\nWho: Members of the general public. No scientific background needed\;
  everyone is welcome!\nWhy: Learn something new and interesting while cele
 brating science on scenic Solomons Island\n\n\n\nThis seminar is presented
  as a part of the Chesapeake Biological Laboraotyr's Science for Citizens
 Seminar Series.  These public seminars invite the community to discover ho
 w our scientists are developing new approaches to solving the environmenta
 l challenges facing Southern Maryland\, our nation\, and the world. View t
