\n\nPresented by Dr. Helen Bailey\n\n\n\nWe’re all used to disposal plasti
c\, but some of it ends up in our streams\, rivers\, the Chesapeake Bay\,
and ultimately the ocean\, harming the wildlife and sealife. CBL scientist
s are partnering with restaurants on Solomons Island to work together on r
educing plastic waste. In this talk\, Dr. Bailey will explain how these bu
sinesses are “making the switch” from common single-use\, petroleum-based
plastics\, such as straws and take-out containers\, to compostable and bio
degradable products\, and how YOU can help! \n\n\n\nWhen: Presented twice
 - 2:00pm - 3:00pm and again from 7:00pm - 8:00pm\nWhere: CBL’s Bernie Fowl
 er Lab\, 142 Williams Street\, Solomons\, MD 20688. View a campus map.\nCo
st: Free. No pre-registration necessary. Seating is available on a first-c
ome\, first-served basis.\nWho: Members of the general public. No scientif
ic background needed\; everyone is welcome!\nWhy: Learn something new and
interesting while celebrating science on scenic Solomons Island\n\n\n\nThi
s seminar is presented as a part of the Chesapeake Biological Laboraotyr's
Science for Citizens Seminar Series.  These public seminars invite the co
mmunity to discover how our scientists are developing new approaches to so
lving the environmental challenges facing Southern Maryland\, our nation\,
and the world. View the complete Spring 2019 Science for Citizens Seminar
  schedule.
