After Hours—talks from HPL scientists on current environmental topics pres
ented at the Easton Branch of Talbot County Free Library\, 100 W. Dover St
 . \n\n\n\nMonday\, March 25\, 6:30-7:30pm\n\n\n\nDr. Louis Plough will giv
e a talk titled “What’s in your water? Understanding what is in our waters
using environmental DNA (eDNA).'\n\nThe Plough lab at the Horn Point Labo
ratory uses genetic and genomic tools to understand what is in our waters.
Recent research has focused on the population genetics of oyster restorat
ion\, blue crab population dynamics\, and environment DNA\, eDNA\, analysi
s of river herring. \n\n\n\n“The basic idea behind 'eDNA' sampling is that
aquatic species leave behind DNA in their environment. A water sample tak
en in the proximity of a particular species of animal or fish allows detec
tion by the presence of their eDNA. Thus\, we can track who is in specific
waters\,' said Louis Plough.\n\n\n\nFREE\; Register online or contact Car

cience After Hours event Monday\, April 29\, with Dr. Tom Fisher\, who wil
l give a talk titled 'Good news for the Choptank: Improving water quality
 in the estuary.”\n\n\n\n
