\n\n\n Title: Local to hemisphere movements of
 migratory birds in a dynamic world\n \n \n\n \n\n
\n\n\nAbstract: \n\n\n\nWe live in a rapidly changing world where many s
pecies are declining\, and this is especially true for migratory species.
It is possible that changes in habitat\, climate\, and resource availabili
ty due to unprecedented human activity are inflating the costs associated
with animal migration. At the same time\, advancing technologies and analy
tical tools are making it possible to solve many of the important mysterie
s about migratory animals. I will talk about some of my research making us
e of field\, lab\, and remotely sensed data to 1) address fundamental ques
tions about avian migration biology\, 2) understand how and why migration
is changing and migratory species are declining\, and 3) develop tools for
the inclusion of stopover and airspace habitats into conservation and man
 agement efforts for migratory species.
