le: Are PFAS the Environmental Contaminant issue of Our Times?\n\n\n\nSpea
ker: Dr. Chris Salice (CBL alumnus PhD 2002\; Director of Environmental Sc
ience and Studies Program\, Towson University)\n\n\n\nAbstract:  Character
ized by very strong chemical bonds\, per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances
(or PFAS) are used in everything from non-stick cookware and waterproofing
to fire suppression. As a result of widespread and unregulated use\, PFAS
are global contaminants and have been measured in a wide variety of wildl
ife. But there are significant uncertainties regarding the risks of these
chemicals to ecological systems. Dr. Chris Salice\, CBL alumnus now at Tow
son University\, has been working to better understand how these chemicals
may be affecting ecological systems\, but there is still much to learn.\n
\n\n\nThis seminar is presented as a part of the Science for Citizens semi
nar series. For a full list of the public seminars in this series\, please
