n Chesapeake Bay\, historic oyster populations had enormous impact on ecos
ystem functions. However\, these populations were decimated over the past
century and their ecosystem services were lost. As stressors caused by hum
an influence mount\, the ecosystem services of oysters are needed more tha
n ever. In this talk\, Assistant Professor Matthew Gray describes how oyst
ers and the services they provide can be leveraged to tackle serious envir
onmental problems in the Chesapeake Bay and beyond.  This event is interac
tive and questions are encouraged.\n\n\n\nContact Carin Starr at cstarr@um
ces.edu or 410-221-8408 for more information.\n\n\n\nThe Chesapeake Bay an
d its rivers are the lifeblood of the Eastern Shore. While many easily rec
ognize the natural beauty the Chesapeake Bay country offers\, the Horn Poi
nt Laboratory offers “Science After Hours” to make the science of the Ches
apeake Bay as accessible as its beauty.  \n
