The impact of organic UV filters on corals has also been scrutinized and some regulatory bodies have banned the sale of sunscreens containing certain organic UV filters.

Mitchelmore will apply her expertise in the field of environmental health and toxicology by serving on a committee that will study the inputs, fates and effects of oil in the marine environment.
