FROSTBURG, MD (August 20, 2015) -- The Appalachian Laboratory in Frostburg is pleased to announce that Dr. Andrew Elmore, an associate professor and researcher at the Laboratory, will receive the Purdue University Department of Physics and Astronomy Outstanding Alumnus Award. The award, which honors Purdue graduates whose exemplary profession achievements merit particular distinction, will be presented to Dr. Elmore at a reception in his honor on September 25 in Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana. Dr. Elmore received his B.S. in Applied Physics from Purdue in 1997.
Broadly trained as an environmental scientist, Dr. Elmore uses remote sensing (satellite images of the earth over time) to tackle scientific questions about ecology, geology, and the human sciences. In particular, he specializes in uncovering and deciphering the impact of water resource use in dry climates, the changes in water and land resources in temperate forests due to urbanization, and the response of ecosystems to climate change and variability. Dr. Elmore recently returned from a sabbatical in Melbourne Victoria, Australia where he conducted environmental remote sensing research as part of team of scientists with the Waterway Ecosystem Research Group at the University of Melbourne.
