President's Award

The President's Award for Excellence in Application of Science was established to honor University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science faculty members whose exemplary applications of science have had a positive impact on environmental protection and management.

President's Award for Excellence in Application of Science

The President's Award for Excellence in Application of Science was established to honor University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science faculty members whose exemplary applications of science have had a positive impact on environmental protection and management.

President's Award for Outstanding Research Support

The President's Award for Outstanding Research Support recognizes professional achievements by faculty research assistants (FRAs), who conduct much of the day-to-day science that goes on in UMCES’ labs and are often our primary people doing field sampling, conducting lab analyses, and managing labs. The award is presented to one individual annually who has made an outstanding contribution to leadership in research innovation, mentoring, and service.

Regents Staff Award

The Regents Staff Awards are the highest honor presented by the board to exemplary staff members in the University System of Maryland. The awards honor excellence in the following categories: contribution to the institution; service to students in an academic or residential environment; effectiveness and efficiency; public service to the university or the greater community; and inclusion, multiculturalism, and social justice. Institutional staff nominating committees make recommendations to the institutional presidents, who review nominations and supporting material and forward recommendations to the USM Chancellor. The Regents Staff Review Committee makes the final recommendations. Each award carries a $2,000 prize provided by the institutions and the University System of Maryland Foundation.

Regents Faculty Award

The Board of Regents Faculty Awards publicly recognize distinguished performance by educators and researchers within the University System of Maryland. Award categories include collaboration, mentoring, public service, teaching, research, scholarship, and creative activity. Recipients are given $1,000 and a plaque of recognition for the honor during a ceremony.

UMCES Staff Excellence Award

A Staff Council initiative, approved by the Administrative Council, this award represents an honor bestowed by the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) for achievements of Exempt and Nonexempt Staff.  The award is presented to an individual staff member who consistently demonstrates a high level of commitment and dedication to UMCES, has a positive impact on their work environment, is flexible and demonstrates cooperation and collaboration among their peers and supervisor while carrying out their job duties.

UMCES Student Service Award

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) Student Service Award honors an UMCES graduate student who has provided outstanding service to their laboratory unit, UMCES, the University System of Maryland, their community, government agencies, and/or professional societies over the course of their tenure as graduate student at UMCES. The award recognizes contributions that are vitally important to the UMCES community and constituencies but are often overlooked in comparison to more traditional academic or scientific achievements. 

Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award

The Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award was created by the  UMCES’ Graduate Student Council to recognized faculty for their commitment to students beyond the classroom and recognize advisors that go above and beyond to mentor students.
