Bio

Brian is a Ph.D. student in Dr. Emily Cohen's Animal Migration Research lab group. His research at the AL focuses on avian migration, exploring the communities of birds that migrate together across North America every year. This work will integrate radar aeroecology (understanding what factors drive the formation of stopover communities at a broad scale) and field methods (assessing evidence of interactions between co-migrating birds at a very fine scale) to investigate this understudied component of the lives of migratory birds. Prior to joining the Appalachian Lab, Brian received his MS studying the post-breeding ecology of Prothonotary Warblers in Columbus, OH, and previously worked on multiple projects on the biogeography of tropical birds in collaboration with colleagues at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, IL.
