HOME WHY APPLY SUCCESS STORIES

Many things can limit opportunities for community college STEM students. The financial capacity to take on an unpaid internship is a major barrier to diversity and inclusion in professional advancement in higher education. Additionally, unfamiliarity with traditional pathways to STEM careers, societal barriers, and the lack of access to hands-on research can prevent community college students from pursuing STEM studies.

The E2C3 program addresses these challenges by providing immersive, experiential learning, emphasizing discovery, developing self-direction, and transcending the typical undergraduate experience. Providing paid E2C3 internships allows nontraditional or lower-income students the opportunity for greater immersion into their studies.

You can donate to UMCES Chesapeake Biological Laboratory, using the “Training Diverse STEM Workforce CBL” designation to support this effort. For more information about how you can support the E2C3 program, please contact CBL Director Dr. Tom Miller via email or at 410-326-7276.
