IMET Annual Open House - save the date!

May 4, 2024 1:00pm to 4:00pm iCal Google Calendar

Scientists from the UMCES' Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) will share their research with the public on Saturday, May 4, in the afternoon. Join us to enjoy hands-on science activities for all ages and discover important marine research happening right here, at the edge of Baltimore's harbor. Event activities will take place indoors and out, so come prepared for the weather.

IMET Scientists are engaged in groundbreaking research in microbiology, genetics and biotechnology. They analyze how micro-algae can be used to absorb carbon emissions, how shark immune systems can help diagnose and treat disease, how to grow fish in urban environments as a sustainable solution to food insecurity, and so much more!

IMET is one of six labs within the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) that conducts research to help protect and restore coastal marine systems and their watersheds, and improve human health. UMCES, the University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB), and the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) are partner universities.
