Developing the Western Lake Erie report card in Toledo, Ohio

Andrew Elmore and I traveled to Toledo, Ohio to facilitate a workshop focused on indicators and thresholds for the Western Lake Erie report card project. The workshop was held on 24-25 April 2019 in the Lake Erie Center, a beautiful facility run by the University of Toledo. Sandy Bihn, the Lake Erie Riverkeeper, was our sponsor and Tom Bridgeman, University of Toledo was our host. Prior to the workshop, Andrew and I drove around the Maumee River mouth to get a feel for the region.

UMCES graduates next generation of environmental science leaders

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science’s sixth annual Commencement ceremony was held on May 23 at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Southern Maryland and featured Commencement speaker Professor Vicki Arroyo, Executive Director, Georgetown Climate Center.

Chesapeake Bay health score decreased last year due to extreme rainfall

The Chesapeake Bay score decreased in 2018, but maintained a C grade, according to the 2018 Chesapeake Bay Report Card. This was due to extremely high precipitation over the year. Despite extreme rainfall last year, the overall trend indicates that Chesapeake Bay health is improving over time.
