Bio
Jenny Weiske is a PhD student at Horn Point Lab with a particular interest in biogeochemistry. Her research focuses on sinking particles and how they contribute to the biological carbon pump. Specifically, she studies how rhizaria - unicellular protists with dense carbonate or silica shells - contribute to sinking particle flux off the coast of Bermuda. She aims to use this research to better understand carbon sequestration and the cycling of important nutrients in the open ocean.
Jenny graduated from the University of Southern California in 2023 with a B.A. in Biological Sciences and a B.A. in Theatre and research experience in marine trace metals. She extended her stay at USC by studying kelp circadian rhythms and earning an M.S. in Marine and Environmental Biology in 2024.
