Miriam Johnston
Assistant Professor
Appalachian Laboratory
Bio
Dr. Johnston is a global change ecologist who studies how disturbance and climatic stress affect plant demography and ecosystem fluxes of carbon, water, and energy. She applies methods such as mechanistic and statistical modeling to discover patterns in “big data,” with the ultimate goal of supporting ecosystem conservation and management. She has particular interest in the effects of drought and heat and in applications of thermal remote sensing.
