Brook Trout Adaptation

TALIN Project - 2024

Brook Trout are a vital indicator species in the Appalachians, reflecting the health and history of cold-water ecosystems and supporting regional biodiversity, culture, and recreation-based economies.

This project, led by Dr. Zach Zbinden, is identifying naturally occurring genetic adaptations that will allow Brook Trout populations to survive and thrive through changing environmental conditions. The project is also developing partnerships to share knowledge and coordinate efforts to apply these natural adaptations to protect Brook Trout into the future. To date, researchers have procured needed equipment, identified best practices, and built relationships and networks to facilitate the work.
