Researchers from the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science have teamed up with their colleagues to analyze historical environmental data to develop an ecological forecast of several indicators of Chesapeake Bay health.

Chesapeake Biological Laboratory scientist Dr. Carys Mitchelmore has played an active role in the public discussion after the Deepwater Horizon explosion by providing expert testimony at several Congressional hearings and through the media.

Since the explosion of the oil rig Deepwater Horizon, researchers from the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science are playing an active role in determining long-term damage to the ecosystem and providing science-based analysis to policymakers and natural resource managers working to minimize the impact of this environmental tragedy.

Ecological conditions in the Chesapeake Bay in 2009 received a “C” from UMCES researchers in their annual Chesapeake Bay Health Report Card.
