While UMCES is a public university, access to its buildings is limited. These guidelines outline limitations on UMCES’ campus property (Horn Point Laboratory, Chesapeake Biological Laboratory, and Appalachian Laboratory), including UMCES rented offices in Annapolis. The UMCES Community* located at the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology and Maryland Sea Grant must follow the guidelines established at UMBC and UMCP, respectively.
- UMCES Community are allowed entry into public areas of buildings. Invited guests must be accompanied by a member of the UMCES Community. No uninvited guests are allowed within UMCES, buildings, offices, or labs.
- Offices and labs may have additional access limitations – even to those within the UMCES Community - at the discretion of the Unit Director or their designee.
- To ensure safety, the public can assemble outside of UMCES buildings but provide clearance of 20 feet from any building doorway. Sidewalks and roads must remain clear of public assembly zones.
- Public assembly on campus can only occur during UMCES business hours to ensure the safety of the UMCES Community as well as the public.
*UMCES Community is defined as members of the UMCES faculty, staff, students, volunteers and others who are recognized within the UMCES personnel system.
