Migration Studies

TALIN Project - 2024

There is an increasing need to identify the airspace used by migratory animals in flight. Yet, there are limitations with existing approaches to observe and monitor the movement of such organisms.

This project, led by Dr. Emily Cohen, is acquiring and deploying a portable radar, only the second available in North America, to detect bird, bats, and insects in the airspace, helping inform and transform conservation and management efforts in Appalachia and beyond. Researchers expect to deploy the radar in fall 2025 or spring 2026.
