OysterFutures stakeholders reach consensus

After a two-year process to find common ground on ways to improve oyster fishing practices and restoration in the Choptank and Little Choptank Rivers, the OysterFutures stakeholders reached consensus and submitted their recommendations to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Dr. Helen Bailey, Associate Research Professor at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory has been honored by the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) with the President's Award for Excellence in Application of Science. She was recognized for her working to studying protected species in order to understand their movements and habitat use, and inform conservation and management.

New solar field, sustainability center stage at Horn Point Laboratory

The switch was flipped on a new solar field spanning 10 acres on the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science’s Horn Point Laboratory campus. The 11,000 solar panels are expected to generate the equivalent of 50% of the campus’ annual energy consumption.
