Graduate Program

80 students work side-by-side with the best environmental scientists in the world.

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science provides a unique approach to graduate education. By partnering with University System of Maryland (USM) institutions for classroom-based studies, we are able to provide students with a more intense, laboratory-based research education. Our graduate students do not learn about research solely from textbooks. Instead, they work hand-in-hand with their faculty advisor, learning from the best environmental researchers in the nation.

UMCES graduate students matriculate in several areas of specialization, including:

  Ecology, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental

Molecular Biology/Biotechnology, Environmental Science,

Fisheries Science, Oceanography, and Toxicology

Graduate students are enrolled in an University of Maryland instituion and conduct research at one of the UMCES's research laboratories through three programs:

Marine-Estuarine-Environmental Sciences (MEES) Graduate Program

University of Maryland's Graduate Program in Life Sicences (GPILS)

Frostburg State University's Masters Programs in Applied Ecology and
