Silvia R. Santos da Silva

I am an environmental scientist with research interest in environmental systems analysis in coupled human-natural systems, with particular emphasis on human-water system interactions. My work involves climate, hydrologic and integrated assessment modeling to understand short- and long-term multi-sectoral impacts on the human–Earth system, support sustainable water resource management under changing conditions, and inform regional- to country-level planning of climate change mitigation and adaptation within an integrated water-energy-food (WEF) nexus framework.

Throughout my academic career, I have worked extensively on issues related to water scarcity, climate change, and sustainability, with the aim of providing actionable, science-based support for decision-making and planning on environmental challenges of local, national, and global relevance.

I have addressed complex environmental questions through interdisciplinary research that leverages a range of modeling systems and environmental datasets, integrating climate, hydrology, human–Earth system modeling, and remote sensing data. I have collaborated extensively with multidisciplinary teams on projects funded by agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the World Bank Group (WBG) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The achievements of these projects have been published in various prestigious peer-reviewed journals including Journal of Hydrology, Environmental Research Letters, and Nature Communications.
