Bio
Katie May has 20 years of experience in the conservation and environmental sciences. Her research focuses on resilience and adaptation. She works at the community, county, and state level, as well as internationally, to scientifically assess what actions are needed to improve resilience and ensure communities at all levels are prepared to face the challenges that we, as a planet, are experiencing.
Prior to her work at UMCES, Katie May earned a Ph.D. in Marine Science at the College of William & Mary, an M.A. in Conservation Biology at Columbia University, and a B.S. in Biology at Long Island University. Her past research endeavors include work in seafood sustainability and fish evolution. Her volunteer conservation work has included genetics work at the American Museum of Natural History, supporting coral restoration work in the Dominican Republic, and collaborating with communities in Ireland to identify their conservation needs. Professionally, she has worked as a sustainability grants officer, a fisheries manager, and an educator.
A constant reader, Katie May also enjoys traveling, birding, and most of all spending time with her cat, Berlioz, and her husband.
