Baltimore Magazine paid a visit to the Horn Point Laboratory (HPL) to do research for their October edition, “The Mighty Oyster: Maryland’s most weird and wonderful seafood is in the midst of a major comeback” (opens in a new tab).  Editor, Lydia Woolever, spent the day talking with faculty and students whose research covers facets of the oyster from genetics to tolerate lower salinity to their potential to enhance coastal resilience while providing marine habitat through building oyster castles.

HPL Graduate student and “GameChanger”, Imani Black, shares her efforts to advance minority women in aquaculture through her nonprofit Minorities in Aquaculture (opens in a new tab).  “Baby Boom” takes you behind the scenes in HPL’s Oyster Hatchery.  These and other stories celebrate the wonders and positive powers held in the mighty oyster.
