Jan Schipper

Dr. Jan Schipper is a wildlife ecologist and conservation scientist with over 30 years of research experience, primarily in Central and South America, Hawaii, Philippines and along the US/Mexico borderlands. He has conducted applied research and developed conservation and management projects across a wide variety of threatened species, especially focusing on population recovery goals, non-invasive monitoring techniques and connectivity science. Long term projects include 1) evaluating the importance of conservation corridors for mammal dispersal and movement, 2) developing deterrents for illegal poaching, 3) creating technology to monitor species visually and acoustically, 4) monitoring the effectiveness of protected areas at conserving target species and 5) developing innovative conservation tools for jaguar (Panthera onca) and other area sensitive species.
