The Appalachian Laboratory Investor Network (TALIN)
Enabling Innovative, Transformative Science
The Appalachian region is known for its rich natural resources, strong cultural heritage, and potential for economic growth.
Appalachia also faces urgent environmental challenges that require immediate, coordinated solutions to sustain its ecosystems and support its communities. Challenges researchers at the UMCES Appalachian Laboratory are poised to meet.
Enter TALIN, a group of committed philanthropists looking to develop solutions by supporting novel and early-stage environmental research in the region.
In October 2024, TALIN met for the first time at the UMCES Appalachian Laboratory in Frostburg, Maryland. Three Lab researchers pitched projects.
Impressed with the potential impact of these projects, TALIN funded all three. See below to learn more about these research initiatives.
